Sea Skin explores floating as a methodological approach to understanding our relationship with water and the environment. Grounded in an embodied practice, floating involves immersing oneself in bodies of water, navigating the intricate dynamics of oceanic currents and bodily tides. Represented in the exhibition by two artworks staying dry for now and swallowed by the tide, this practice has evolved into a performative methodology that engages with acts of sense-making, deep listening and immersive experiences. Through a combination of artistic practice and theoretical inquiry Staying Dry for Now invites participants to engage with bodies of water. Nurturing a deeper awareness of the interconnectedness of all living beings and highlighting the importance of embodiment and sensory engagement. Dreaming to cultivate a deeper understanding of our aquatic environments swallowed by the tide investigates the fluid interplay between oceanic thinking and feeling, emphasising the dream-like and speculative aspects of wet survival. Uncovering how ephemeral moments spent in bodies of water can present watery offerings that challenge conventional modes of understanding. These offerings aim to map the intricate relationships between the individual, the collective and the natural world.
